Sadly, we begin the month of September and return after the holidays hosting the Requiem Mass at the Cathedral for Fr Joe Kendall on Friday 4 September. 

His sudden and unexpected death at the age of 45 has been a heavy blow to his family, to the archdiocese and the community at the English College of Valladolid. May he rest in peace. 

From 9-13 September Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, will be making a formal visitation of the archdiocese. Archbishop Buendía will conclude his visitation on the Sunday, celebrating the Solemn Mass at the Cathedral at 11am and presiding at Choral Evening Prayer at 3pm that afternoon. 

Our Archdiocesan Chapter of Canons, the first and oldest chapter in the country, is celebrating their 175th anniversary this year and the Chapter will gather for a celebratory Mass at 12:15pm and lunch on Wednesday 17 September to mark the occasion. 

We celebrate our Annual Cathedral Community Mass on Sunday 20 September. Following the main holiday period, it is an opportunity to begin the new season and academic year with a welcome and renewal of community life. 

On the final Sunday of the month, the eve of the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, CAFOD and partners have organised ‘A Time to Act’ vigil to pray for peace and justice in the Holy Land. Those taking part are invited to Choral Evening Prayer at 3pm, and following this, to join in a walk of peace to Liverpool Cathedral for a reflection on the present situation in the Holy Land, followed by a walk to the conference venue.
